On a perfect summer’s evening the Sky Blues visited Terenure for a pre season friendly.
The home side began much the stronger and were particularly dangerous from corners, and it was from this source that they opened the scoring. Gradually Spartak came to life and, following a corner of their own, Mick finished calmly from close range to equalise.
VEC were a good deal better after the interval, scoring again from a good cross to a back post left free to an incoming home player who made it 2-1. Ciaran went in goal at the interval allowing Derek to play up top, to some effect. Some sloppy playing out from the back by Spartak allowed VEC to score again but two set piece efforts by Derek saw Spartak claw back to 3.3. Steve fired wide and Marco had two good headed efforts go close, Derek then added a neat finish after a good attacking move.
A worthwhile workout , but one which exposed fitness issues for some. Roll on/Roll off not available in the league!
