Season ends on a low note

Spartak 4, Booth Road 5

This game was bookended by two fine strikes by Steve Grier and Steve Walsh. Grier’s effort from 30 yards went in via a post; Walsh’s expert free kick nestled in the top corner.

Unfortunately the Sky Blues did not pay sufficient attention to the darker defensive arts in this much delayed end of season fixture. Marlay’s strange cancellation policies meant the last few games were stretched over a long number of weeks and as a result quite a few players were missing for various reasons – injuries, exams, fatigue etc.

Its probably best to draw a veil over the defensive frailties which allowed Booth Road to fully capitalise on their chances. A lack of pace in the Spartak back four proved damaging.

Spartak took the lead, then came back from 1-2 down to lead 3-2 courtesy of two neatly taken Conor Maguire goals. Meantime Keith Kelly’s missed a spot kick, awarded after a foul on Graham McEnroe. Keith’s effort thudded against the post.
