Spartak 3, Postal 2
With a number of players missing at Kevin O’Toole’s stag, and for other reasons, a friendly game gave an opportunity for some players on the mend from injury to return, with Mick Greene and Neill Bolger turning in solid performances after a hard fought saturday cup tie.
Postal were not long in asserting their authority and raced into a two goal lead.
A poor clearance by Stephen Harris put Spartak in trouble and, although looking offside, the Postal striker scored. A clearing header by Dave Browne was a little too central and was returned with interest to the net for number two. Spartak came closest when Ciaran Keogh’s 30 yard shot was touched over. A number of other chances created by the Sky Blues went abegging with Glen Burke missing a one on one.
Early in the second half a drilled corner by Keogh was powerfully headed in by Burke to reduce arrears; and when Keith Kelly’s on target shot slowed in the wet conditions, Burke raced in to finish.
With a minute remaining a long cross field ball by Burke was retrieved by Bolger who laid on a first time shot from Kelly which arrowed into the top corner.
Some fine performances in heavy conditions made for a pleasing outing.
Drinks were on Glen back in the Eden as he celebrated a golf betting coup.
